Upcoming events for students interested in health careers:
- Monday, September 8, 2008 from 4-5pm in Room 200 Sullivan Building - Important meeting for students interested in health careers such as medicine, dentistry, vet med, PT, PA, optometry, podiatry, osteopathic med, etc. Please note that this meeting will not include information for pre-nursing majors.
- Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 4-5pm in Room 226 Moore Nursing Building - Important meeting for students interested in health careers other than nursing (second chance - See #1 above). If you cannot attend on Monday, the 8th, try to attend this meeting. (If you cannot attend either on the 8th or 9th, try to find a friend who is attending so you can learn what was said.)
- Friday, September 12, 2008 - The Health Career Summer Read: Discussion of Final Exam: A Surgeon's Reflection on Mortality by Dr. Pauline Chen. 3rd Floor Conference Room, Sullivan Science Building, 3:30pm.
- Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - A representative from the Georgia Campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine will be on campus to meet with interested students from 4:30 to 5:45pm in Room 310 Eberhart Building.
- Thursday, November 6, 2008 - Interviewing for Medical School: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Meet with an interviewer from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine from 5-6:30pm in Room 226 Moore Nursing Building. A great opportunity to get your questions answered.
- Ongoing - Dr. Rob Cannon is a member of the Institutional Review Board at Cone Hospital, which reviews clinical research proposals from local physicians who are doing research in oncology, cardiology, critical care medicine, etc. This Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:30am to 9am at the Heart Center at Cone Hospital. Dr. Cannon is allowed to bring one or two students to the meetings to observe, and he leaves from the Stone Building parking lot at 7am to drive to the hospital. If you are interested in attending one of these meetings, you will need to sign up at Dr. Cannon's office, 441 Eberhart. The sign up sheet will be available August 11th.
- Reminder - There is a Health Careers bulletin board on the first floor hallway of the Sullivan Science Building where Dr. Cannon posts items for students interested in health careers. It is suggested that you occasionally check this bulletin board when you are in the Sullivan Building.
