About Communication Across the Curriculum

The Communication Across the Curriculum (CAC) program at UNCG is an effort to help students learn to use writing and speaking effectively in their classes. The goal is to help you and your peers improve your ability to communicate in and out of the academy.

CAC is divided into four major parts: the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program, the Speaking Across the Curriculum (SAC) program, the University Speaking Center, and the University Writing Center. SAC administers the SI courses, and WAC administers the WI classes. The two centers help students through one-on-one consultations and peer tutoring.

UNCG is only one of a growing number of schools engaged in WAC and SAC work. According to a recent survey of 1,338 U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities, more than half reported that they engaged in some form of WAC or Writing in the Disciplines (WID) work. A smaller study of 562 U.S. colleges and universities found that a tenth of schools had a SAC program .
