What kinds of work will I do in my WI and SI classes?
When you read terms like "writing intensive" and "speaking intensive," what's the first thing that comes to mind? If you said "papers and speeches," you're not alone; that's what most students expect. But there's far more to writing and speaking than writing essays and giving traditional speeches.
Here's a list of some of the projects WI and SI instructors have assigned:
- Researching and writing a project about community issues
- Writing a script for a short movie
- Debating important issues
- Writing short responses to films, videos, and texts
- Collaborating with classmates on group oral presentations
- Creating parody Web sites
- Facilitating classroom discussions
- Performing scenes from a play
- Rewriting famous speeches as texts
