Transportion
Getting to and from campus is a big consideration when choosing a place to live. Many commuting students prefer to live close to campus, where they can walk or bicycle to class. Not only does this save money on fuel and parking, it's a great way to get some exercise. Students who live further away will need to factor additional commuting time into their daily schedules and possibly vehicle expenses and a parking permit into their budgets. Another option for getting to campus is to ride the HEAT (Higher Education Area Transit) bus, which is free for all UNCG students. Bus schedules are available at many locations on campus, including the Elliott University Center.
Parking
Towing on city streets is done by the City and the University. If students park on a city street on the campus, they will be towed if they violate the time period for that particular area. The cost to get a car back after being towed is approximately $70.00 and up. Boot removal cost $40.
- C-permit
- The "C" permit entitles commuter students to park in any parking lot on campus that is designated for commuting students. When you purchase your permit you will receive a map which outlines the different designations. Be sure to check the signs at the entrance to the lots as the designation may change depending on time of day. There may be a waiting list by fall to purchase a C permit.
- E-permit
- The "E" permit entitles students to park in a lot located at 1720 West Lee Street (located at the intersection of Chapman and West Lee Street) during the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Shuttle service is provided to and from campus on a 15 minute cycle with three stops on campus along Spring Garden Street between 7:30 am and 6:25 pm. The "E" permit also allows students to park on campus during afternoon and evening hours between 1pm and 7:30am.
- Parking Decks
- Students can buy a deck card D-permit. Instead of buying a D-permit, they can also park in the deck and pay per hour or per day. Walker, McIver, and Oakland decks currently have a waiting list.
- Parking Meters
- You may also park at the parking meters on campus. These are at Loading Zones (15-minute parking), Walker/Aycock & Stone lots (2-hour meters).
