Find out more about Greek governing councils and their respective chapters.

Each fraternity and sorority at UNCG belongs to one of four governing councils: National Pan-Hellenic Council, Multicultural Greek Council, InterFraternity Council, and College Panhellenic Council. Each council’s organizations have a different process for joining.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) organizations take new members at a range of times of the year through a process call Membership Intake. Each NPHC organizations has their own set of requirements for membership, and each conducts Membership Intake on a schedule set by the chapter itself. Some of the organizations will conduct intake each semester, others might conduct intake once a year – it all depends on what the individual chapters decide to do in any given year. Most organizations that are conducting intake will host an informational meeting in which the criteria for membership are explained. NPHC hosts “Meet the Greeks” each fall semester, which is a general informational program about all of its organizations.

Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the newest governing council in UNCG’s Greek community. MGC exists to provide support, education, and programming for non-traditional, culturally-based Greek organizations. MGC includes Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority and Chi Upsilon Sigma. These organizations conduct their Membership Intake similar to the process used by NPHC organizations.

InterFraternity Council (IFC) chapters usually conduct recruitment each semester. Potential members to IFC fraternities must have at least a 2.3 college GPA and have completed at least 12 college credit hours. Like NPHC and MGC, these organizations conduct their membership recruitment process individually as chapters and each fraternity sets their own recruitment schedule each semester. More information about each chapters’ recruitment schedule and process can be found on their web site or by contacting the fraternity directly.

College Panhellenic Council (CPH) conducts a formal recruitment process for each of its member sororities each fall. Some CPH sororities may choose to conduct informal recruitment on their own as an organization, either later in the fall, during the spring semester, both fall and spring, or not at all. To express interest in participating in informal recruitment for CPH sororities, please contact the Greek Advisor in the Office of Campus Activities and Programs at 334-5800.
