About COLT

Do your members need a shove in the right direction? They crave a road map and a compass.

The raw talent is there but some refining is needed. They want to make a difference, but don’t know how to motivate their members. They know their organization, but not their organization’s dynamics. It’s time to do an about face!

America’s Student Leadership Trainer Dave Kelly will facilitate the nationally syndicated COLT program for the Spring Leadership Academy. COLT stands for Club/Organization Leadership Training to give the leaders of our campus’ clubs and organizations the tools they need to lead! Join us for COLT and discover how thousands of campus leaders throughout the United States are achieving success!

What will the educational sessions cover?

  • Increase membership recruitment and retention
  • Conduct fun and effective meetings
  • Facilitate effective conflict resolution
  • Build teams into cohesive units
  • And much, much more!

Who is invited to attend?

  • Aspiring or emerging campus leaders who want to build their confidence, skills, and competencies
  • Current leaders who want to enhance their campus organization(s) or other leadership initiative(s)
  • College students who are simply interested in leadership education and engagement

Who is required to attend?

All organizations must send the following minimum number of delegates:

  • Organizations with 1-10 members must send one representative.
  • Organizations with 11-25 members must send two representatives.
  • Organizations with 26+ must send at least three representatives.

Note: An individual may only represent one organization.

When and where is the program?

COLT will run in the UNCG Petty Building Room # 136 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on College Avenue. (Note: Lunch and some afternoon sessions will be held in Spencer’s Dining Hall across the street.) For a sneak preview, visit www.gonzospeaks.com

Tired of Ineffective Information Tables & Meetings? How many times have you seen it?

Club members sit behind an information table reading the newspaper, talking intimately to each other and completely ignoring the prospects standing in front of their display table? At the end of the day, they have nothing to show for their wasted “efforts”. It doesn’t have to be that way!

Check into the COLT program and learn a tried and and true method of recruiting that will cause student sign-ups to soar! COLT facilitator Dave Kelly has participated in more than 100 activities fairs. While the clubs around him were doing nothing, he helped recruit on average 80 people to sign-up at tables he has worked at.

Dave will actually demonstrate, step-by-step, the most effective way to manage the recruitment process from the recruitment table itself to the information meeting to retaining the members who joined. Increased recruitment fair sign-ups leads to increased student involvement!

Having a difficult time motivating others? You’re not alone.

How do I get someone to do what I need them to do when I need it done? Why should they even want to do it? What’s in it for me? What’s in it for them? Will I ever be able to unravel the mysteries of motivation? It’s actually easier than it seems!

Using practical, easy-to-implement tips, America’s Student Leadership Trainer Dave Kelly will share his insights on achieving success with others. More specifically, you will examine reasons why people join groups / organizations; discuss why we should motivate others in the first place; explore seven (7) tips to motivating others; discover eight (8) keys to motivating others; and become skilled at recognizing the five (5) indicators of motivational success. Mastering motivational techniques can actually increase student involvement! Let’s get motivated!

Are your members willing to dive into leadership positions? Or are they hesitating?

Being thrust into a leadership position can be very scary. Students are often talked into serving as officers before they even get a chance to enjoy being a member. They haven’t had a chance to learn by example. Often you will hear, “What do I do? Who’s going to help me? I’m not sure I’m cut out for this. HELP!” Sound familiar? If so, join us for COLT!

The Club/Organization Leaders Training Conference (COLT) promises help by offering extraordinary solutions for all too common concerns. When he was a freshman in college, Dave Kelly, our lead facilitator, said “yes” to a local leadership position that he felt sure that he was not qualified for. Four years later, Dave was elected international president of that very same 14,000-member organization. Join Dave and instill the confidence in your members that they have been searching for. Take the plunge!

How many boring meetings have you been to this week? Been there. Done that.

Meetings that don’t start on time. Meetings that don’t end of time. Meetings that have been a colossal waste of time. Meetings are a fact of life, but inexperienced leadership can make even one meeting last a lifetime. It doesn’t have to be that way!

Participate in COLT and learn how to improve the quality of meetings on your campus! At COLT, we reveal how to:

  • Prepare the efficient and effective agendas
  • Make everyone feel welcome
  • Involve and recognize members
  • Treat guests and VIPs
  • Rotate between four different meeting types to keep members interested in the organization
  • And much, much more!

Efficiently-run meetings leads to increased student involvement!
