Mission Statement

The Spartans Leading Spartans is a peer leadership consultant team that engages, develops and promotes leadership and organization development for all of UNCG’s student organizations. The purpose of this team is to provide resources to organizations to help the group achieve stated goals.

How Will We Achieve This Mission?

We educate peer-to-peer...

Leading higher education research indicates that approximately 70% of what a college student learns happens outside the classroom and the greatest impact of this learning comes from a student's peer group. The Spartans Leading Spartans' model of peer consultation was designed under this premise. Spartans Leading Spartans is the only student centered program on campus geared toward student organization development. As peer educators we...

  • Serve as a resource for students in organizations to consult, discuss and brainstorm how to create positive change in their group.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment where we teach and learn with other students involved in student organizations.
  • Role model positive and strong leadership skills in all our roles on-campus in order to help other students learn how to be better leaders.
  • Strive to enable other students to be successful leaders in their individual organizations

We create engaging workshops...

Remember – we are students too. We go to class every day and we also want something different. Our goal is to enjoy the process of learning something that will help you in the future. In this effort we...

  • Ensure various learning styles are addressed throughout our presentations
  • Include various “hooks” throughout the workshop to keep your attention
  • Ask for your thoughts and knowledge so the entire group can learn (including us!)
  • Seek and incorporate innovative facilitation techniques to help the learning stick

We continue to learn...

We are not experts and we do not project that image. We simply provide ideas, resources and a different perspective. Sometimes it takes an observer to help your group move to the next level. In order to offer better suggestions we...

  • Engage in bi-weekly personal and professional development training
  • Attend and/or present at national, regional, and local conferences
  • Continuously reflect on strengths and areas of improvement in our leadership style and facilitation skills.
  • Review and learn from feedback given from session participants, fellow staff members, and supervisor

If you are interested in our services, please email Ashleigh Musyt, Assistant Director for Leadership Education and engagement to get the process started.
