Operation U-Leads!
Operation U-Leads are a series of leadership training workshops facilitated by Spartans Leading Spartans (SLS) peer leadership consultants. Each semester SLS selects topics that are of most importance to students on our campus. Typically workshops are focus on topics such as: membership recruitment and retention, improving organization morale, how to run an effective meeting, fund raising, creating an effective team amongst many others.Operation U-Leads fulfill student group classification requirements for "Spartan" and "Minerva." These workshops are communicated through the weekly Student Group Shoutouts and can also be found on the SLS homepage. Don't miss out on the 2011-12 lineup of Operation U-Lead workshops presented by SLS!
- Recruitment and Retention: Monday, September 12, 5-6 p.m.
Expanding one's organization by gathering new members is a necessity, but retaining those members is the most important aspect. Membership retention lays the foundation to a successful organization and ultimately creates a happy environment. Within this workshop we will explore various ways to recruit new members as well as how to maintain current members and get them excited and involved. This workshop is useful for new as well as established organizations.
- Inspire a Shared Vision: Wednesday, September 22, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
"If you don't care where you are going, then it doesn't matter which way you go." ~ Lewis Carroll. A shared vision is vitally important for a group dynamic, and this quote displays the mentality many organizations hold today. Within this program, student organizations will learn how to create a shared vision by depending on each other, creating a solid commitment to the overall goal, as well as investigating the reasons their visions have failed in the past and how to resolve those failed visions.
- Why Teams Fail: Thursday September 29, 12:30-1:30 p.m. & Monday January 23, 5-6 p.m.
Many organizations fall victim to repeating the same mistakes over and over again. They don't know how to get out of their continuous cycle of faults. This program aids in the exploration of an organization's previous failures and how the members can change those failures and get out of their rut in order to form a stable and successful organization.
- Effective Event Planning: Tuesday, October 4, 5-6 p.m.
Events are the perfect way to get one's organization noticed by the community. Events also contribute to successful fundraising and marketing. Within this program organizations will be presented with different ways of brainstorming, organizing, and preparing for events as well as how to establish leadership roles within the overall process of planning.
- Find Your Passion: Wednesday, October 19, 6-7 p.m. (EUC, Willow Room) & Thursday, April 19, 12:30-1:30 p.m. (EUC, Long Leaf Pine Room)
What puts a smile on your face? What makes you unafraid of failure? What would you regret not having tried? Have you asked yourself these questions? Establishing one's passion, though it seems easy, can be quite difficult to determine. This workshop will help individuals explore their passions in order to guide their future into a world of happiness.
- Creating an Effective Team: Thursday, November 3, 5-6 p.m.
"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." ~ Henry Ford. Creating an effective team is extremely important for the overall success of an organization. This program will assist the growth of your organization by taking your team to the next level. Gain knowledge regarding the basics of building an effective team and learning how to engage your team to overall effectiveness.
- Officer Transition/Transitioning: Monday, November 14, 5-7 p.m. (EUC, Willow Room) & Wednesday, April 18, 5-7 p.m. (EUC, Azalea Room)
The passing of the torch is a regular occurrence in many organizations. Whether that be board members or the president, a smooth transition is vital. This workshop demonstrates the step by step process that should be taken in order to ensure a positive transition between new and old officers.
- Conflict Management: Tuesday, November 29, 7-8 p.m. & Thursday, March 22, 5-6 p.m.
Conflict occurs whether you like it or not. It can be something small or extremely large, the question here is: how do you handle your conflict? The ability to effectively manage conflict is a crucial factor regarding an individual or organization's success. This workshop will introduce different strategies to productively transform conflict and reformat into a more successful group as well as exploring the various types of conflict management.
- Member Motivation: Thursday, February 9, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Has your life (and organization) become routine? Have you found yourself (and organization) going through the motions of business as usual? If so, come join Spartans Leading Spartans in an engaging dialogue that will "re-spark" your fire and ignite your motivation to be the change you want to see in your organization.
- Fundraising: Wednesday, February 22, 5-6 p.m.
Effectively raising funds for an organization is one of the many elements necessary for a successful organization. Within this program, students will learn how to creatively and adequately fundraise for their organization. Isn't it time to financially expand your organization?
- Marketing/PR: Wednesday, March 14, 12-1 p.m.
Is there a slump in your organization's membership recruitment? Are you having difficulty being recognized on campus as a lucrative organization? Effective marketing is a great way to provide your organization the boost it needs. This program will assist members and leaders by providing skills to creatively and successfully market to the UNC-G student body.
- Leaving a Legacy: Tuesday, April 10, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
"I want it said of me by those who knew me best, that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow." ~ Abraham Lincoln. Everyone will leave a legacy. What kind of legacy do you want to leave? This program will assist you to determine what steps to take and how to implement those steps in order to be remembered. By establishing how you want to be thought of, you will help mold the way in which you live your life.
- Leadership Challenge: Thursday, December 1, 12:30-1:30 p.m. & Wednesday, April 4, 6-7 p.m.
How do you know if your leadership style is effective? The leadership challenge is a great way to explore who you are as a leader and how you can improve the different aspects of leadership. Spartans Leading Spartans will work with leaders in areas of motivation, positive attitude, encouragement, and so much more.
Workshops will be held in the Willow Room, Elliott University Center, unless otherwise noted.
