Welcome to UNCG! We are excited to have you here. We are the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center, and we will be advising you for fall 2013!
First things first! Activate your UNCG email account, as that is how we will communicate with from now on! If you reading this email in your UNCG account, you are done with that step. If not, activate your account here.
You must do academic advising to get your advising code and register for classes.
For information on transfer credits, please see the Transfer Student Information page on the UNCG Registrar's web site.
The Information Technology Services department at UNCG offers a FREE app for your iPhone, iPad or iTouch that allows you quick access to many campus resources.
The Students First office has a useful link on Advising Basics that may be helpful for you as well.
Having trouble getting into the classes you want/need?
You can come in for an in-person advising appointment or you can request an email advising appointment.
In-person advising involves you coming to our offices and sitting down one-on-one with an advisor. You will go over courses to sign up for, your transferred credits, your major requirement and general education requirements. Your advisor will show you how to read your UNCG Degree Evaluation and how to use UNCGenie to look up and register for classes. You will then register for classes with your advisor. Your advisor will give you an advising record and your advising code.
Email advising requires much more self direction. It is a great option for students who live far away and cannot drive to our offices or for students who feel comfortable using UNCGenie and doing research on how to look up class requirements and register for classes. You will be expected to send your advisor a list of classes you want to sign up for and what requirements those classes meet (in other words, why you are signing up for that class).
Here is an example of the initial email you will get if you choose to do email advising:
Because of the nature of our conversation, and the fact that we'll be communicating about information that falls under federal privacy laws, I will in future send my responses to your UNCG iSpartan email, so please make sure that account is active and that you are checking it regularly.
You indicated you were interested in email advising. Here's how that works:
Then we'll go from there.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
To set up an in-person advising appointment, call us at 336 334 4361. We are open 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. We will begin advising on May 6th and will do advising through May. Please have your calendar ready when you call to make an appointment. You will also need to have your student ID and your UNCG email address (which means you need to activate that account before calling). We have 4 advisors to see around 300 students, so pick a date you can be sure come in on. If you skip or repeatedly reschedule appointments, we cannot guarantee you an appointment in May. You are responsible for knowing how to get here, parking with enough time to get to your appointment, etc. Please be on time for your appointment.
Directions and parking to our office, 103 Foust (not Mary Foust, that is a different building), can be found here.
To set up email advising, simply email us at casa@uncg.edu from your UNCG email account with your student ID number and major and let us know you want to do email advising.
