William  Rothman received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Harvard University where for many years he taught film history, criticism and theory. He is presently Professor of Motion Pictures and Director of the graduate program in film studies at the University of Miami. Dr. Rothman is the author of several books, including the landmark study Hitchcock-The Murderous Gaze, The "I" of the Camera, Documentary Film Classics, and A Philosophical Perspective on Film, which is due out this fall  He is also the editor of the prestigious "Studies in Film" series published by Cambridge University Press.

Since the publication of his first article in 1975, Dr. Rothman has gone on to write 34 other essays and articles ranging across a wide spectrum of subjects.  A thorough bibliography of Dr. Rothman's work in both book and essay form can be found at:  http://members.tripod.com/~Lubbe/rothman.html.

His talents, however, do not lie solely within the world of academia.  With his wife, Kitty Morgan, Bill wrote and produced UNNI, a 35mm feature film directed by the distinguished Indian director G. Aravindan and shot entirely on location in India.
