Barbara Klutinis is a still photographer and independent experimental filmmaker who lives in San Francisco with her husband and two sons. Since 1970 she has pursued the art of hand coloring black and white still photographs. Her photographic work extended into the moving image in 1986, when she completed her MA in Film Production from San Francisco State University.

Since then she has taught film studies at Skyline College in San Bruno. She has developed a Super 8 film animation and film study program for middle school children, taught traditional arts to elementary school children, and continues making her own independent films.

Barbara Klutinis regards her work as existing in the environmentalist realm, not in a scientific sense, but a creative sense. She likes to think of herself as a "colorist", as color, form, and texture in both sound and image form the structural basis for her work. Film has always served as both a cathartic and personal medium for her with respect to her own life cycles. In her current work, she continues to explore alternative environmental perspectives using the optical printer and hand processing. She has won many awards with her 1995 film, Wind, Water, Wings, including Ann Arbor and last year's CFVF. Her other films are Pools (1981), Trumpet Garden (1983), and Still Life with Barbie (1986).
