Juror Listing 1999 Homepage Formerly an academic in the field of Rhetoric & Communication, Dr. Francesconi taught for ten years at North Carolina State University and at Penn State University - Erie. Leaving academe in 1985 to form his own market research consultancy, Dr. Francesconi maintains a lively sidelight as writer/producer of public broadcasting documentaries. Dr. Francesconi is currently working on a production in conjunction with WJCT in Jacksonville, FL and American Forests. Due for release in the fall of 1999, Silent Witnesses: America's Historic Trees, will present a panorama of American history as reflected in the stories behind a few of the over 2000 trees designated as historic in this country. Silent Witnesses is Dr. Francesconi's eighth production. Previous productions have included: Pennsylvania Behind Bars (1993), a documentary detaliing the overcrowding of Pennsylvania's prison system and need for alternative sentencing that was nomintaed for an Emmy award by the Cleveland chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences; On Shifting Sands (1986), an ecological study of a fragile and unique piece of Lake Erie shoreline which was broadcast nationally on PBS; Wilderness or Wealth (1990) which focused on National Forest Service plans to build a commercial resort in the Allegheny National Forest and the protest movement this sparked; and The Saga of the Steamship Atlantic (1996), the story of a treasure hunt for a fabled sunken Great Lakes steamer over the course of a century and a half. |
