The Clinic offers the following services:
The Clinic serves a variety of purposes and populations. The main focus is the education of our students and the honing of their clinical skills. Students are able to observe counseling sessions, practice their own skills, and provide and receive supervision services in the Clinic. Typically, faculty and doctoral students supervise master's students, and doctoral supervisors are supervised directly by counseling faculty. These activities are provided in the context of practicum activities, which are a part of each student's class work requirements while in the counseling program. As pictured here, entire classes are able to observe and critique counseling and supervision sessions from our large observation deck.
The Clinic also serves a variety of client populations through its many clinical services. Clinic staff, including the Clinic Director, clinical interns, and graduate assistants, provide services to UNCG students and individuals in the community through individual, couple, family, child, career, and group counseling. Counseling and psycho-educational groups are provided depending on client need and staff expertise. Groups may be formed around a variety of topics such as women's issues, depression, anxiety, grief, communication skills, and relationship issues. Comprehensive career assessments and career counseling sessions are available on a regular basis.
Each year the Clinic staff work closely with the Office of Student Affairs to assist in providing services for both alcohol/other drug use and anger management. Students who have violated the University's alcohol and/or drug policy may be referred to the Substance Information Program (SIP), which offers psycho-educational classes and individual clinical assessments. The Clinic also provides assessment, educational and counseling services through our Anger Management Program (AMP). The Making Better Choices seminar is geared toward enhancing productive and ethical decision-making. All services are focused on positive outcomes for the student and allow Clinic staff to utilize evidence-based interventions related to these issues.
Consulting services for the University, community agencies, businesses, and other organizations are available through the Clinic. Recent contracts include crisis intervention stress debriefing for businesses and schools experiencing on-site crisis-based events or tragic deaths of a staff member, training workshops for local colleges on gay and lesbian issues, and student leadership training programs. We also have teamed up with campus programs, such as the School of Nursing College Bound Sisters Program, to provide counseling services for individuals and groups in the community.
In addition, the Clinic offers a full line of testing instruments that often are utilized to assess or enhance counseling services. Lastly, the Clinic supports the research focus of the Department. Through the Clinic, students and faculty members make live observations and videotapes for analysis and collect research data.
To inquire about services offered, fee structure, or to schedule an appointment, please call the Clinic at (336) 334-5112. All inquiries will be handled on an individual case basis, depending on availability of services.
