Program Overview

Post-master's Certificates

Our Post-master's Certificates (PMCs) are designed for counseling practitioners who wish to gain additional or advanced training in a specialized area. The PMCs allow counselors to add a specialty area of practice. Each involves 18 to 24 hours of coursework and supervised internships in an appropriate setting. Applicants with counseling degrees from schools that are not CACREP-accredited may need to fulfill co-requisite course requirements. PMCs are generally completed in two to four semesters. PMCs are offered in the following specializations:

  • Couple and family counseling (21 hours)
  • Gerontological counseling (18 hours)
  • School counseling (24 hours)

Deadlines for the PMC program are as follows:

  • Fall—July 1
  • Spring—November 1
  • Summer—April 1

Admission requirements include the Graduate School application, GRE scores (general), two official copies of all transcripts from colleges and universities, a personal statement, complete resume, and tree letters of recommendation.

Additional information on post-master's certificates are available from the Departmental Admissions Office by calling 336.334.3434 or by email at ced@uncg.edu.

Post-master's Certificate in Advanced School Counseling (PMC-ASC)
The Department also offers an online PMC in Advanced School Counseling for school counseling practitioners at the M level license (in North Carolina) who want to qualify for the S level license. This program is delivered via a cohort model, with new cohorts (12 maximum) admitted each spring. Twelve hours of coursework are required. For this PMC only, admissions requirements and procedures are the following:

  • Apply to the Graduate School by going online at www.uncg.edu/grs or by calling 336.334.5596.
  • Submit official copies of all transcripts.
  • Submit a complete vita/resume.
  • Include a statement of professional goals in applying to this certificate.
  • Enclose a copy of your licensure.
  • Include a letter of endorsement from your current principal or other school administrator (you may use the recommendation form in the Graduate School Application package); only one letter is required.

For additional information regarding the PMC-ASC (only), please call 336.334.3432.
