Postdoctoral Study Opportunities

Postdoctoral experiences in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development offer counselor educators, administrators, and clinicians opportunities for professional development. Fellows develop their own program that can include conducting research, presenting professional development seminars, teaching seminar courses on special topics of expertise, and providing technical assistance to doctoral students. Since 1991, the Department of Counseling and Educational Development has hosted Fellows/Scholars from areas across the United States as well as from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Turkey, Israel, and South Korea.

Recent post-doc fellows include Dr. Mine Aladag (2008), Assistant Professor, Ege University, Izmir, Turkey', Dr. Choo Yon Hong, 2004-2005, Full-time lecturer, Cheonan University, Cheonan, South Korea, Dr. Fidan Korkut, 2002-2003, Associate Professor, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey, and Dr. Moshe Tartar, 1998-1999, Chair, Department of Education, and Associate Professor, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel

Academic Fellow
For individuals who have recently completed a doctoral degree, junior faculty members from other institutions, and individuals with considerable experience in an area of counseling but without a completed doctorate who are seeking specialized study and/or research opportunities.

Upsilon Nu Chi Visiting Scholar
For accomplished senior faculty, administrators, and clinicians seeking specialized learning and/or research opportunities for sabbatical or research leave. Applicants must provide evidence of significant accomplishments in their field.

Application Procedure
Applicants for postdoctoral study are asked to submit the following information:

  • letter of application indicating the postdoctoral study opportunity in which you are interested (Academic Fellow or Upsilon Nu Chi Visiting Scholar) and semester preference for study
  • prospectus describing research interests and goals statement of professional interests, research agenda, and interest in UNCG
  • current curriculum vita
  • three letters of recommendation (Academic Fellows only)
  • letter of support from department chair or supervisor (Visiting Scholar only)
