Kotra works to develop a new diabetes drug that could help improve the lives of millions worldwide

Impressive work by Dr. Lakshmi Kotra shows why the university is discussing plans for a School of Pharmacy. A partner in a research initiative funded by a $730,000 grant from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kotra is working to discover a drug that will eliminate the need for insulin pumps and injections for the millions of diabetes-sufferers worldwide. In addition, Kotra started the Triad Drug Discovery Discussion Group last fall, which has attracted faculty from local universities and pharmaceutical companies and has instituted international exchange programs with two different universities in India. Kotra, who also studies infectious disease, leads international collaborations to continue his work on antimalarial drug development.
