COURSE
OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this course is to
improve your Greek by building on what you learned last year in GRK 201 and
202. By the end of this course
you need to be able to:
1.
read a passage from Lysias
with the aid of a lexicon and a selected passage without the aid of a lexicon
2.
recognize quickly all forms of Greek nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and verbs
3.
write out from memory
the principle parts of the most important irregular Greek verbs
4.
describe the importance
of Lysias in Greek literature
5.
discuss the basics of
the Greek legal system
6. be ready to start reading Euripides
in the spring

QUIZZES: There
will be three types of quizzes—Big, Little, and Principal Part. The Big Quizzes will cover
approximately two previous weeks of reading assignments and will be on the
following dates (all Fridays):
August 25, September 22, October 20, and November 17. Principal Parts Quizzes will be given
on Mondays beginning August 21.
The Little Quizzes will be given as needed. All quizzes will take place at the beginning of class. If you arrive late and we are still
taking the quiz, you may take it but you must hand it in with everyone
else. If you arrive after I have
collected the quizzes, you will receive a zero. N.B. THERE
WILL BE NO MAKEUP QUIZZES FOR ANY REASON; IF YOU MISS A QUIZ OF ANY SORT, YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO. I will
drop your lowest Big Quiz grade, your lowest Little Quiz grade, and your lowest
Principal Parts Quiz grade when I figure your final grade for the course.
MIDTERM
EXAMS: We will have three midterm exams on the following
dates (all Fridays: September 8,
October 6, and November 3. Please note that the second midterm is on the day
before fall break; please make your plans for break accordingly.
ATTENDANCE: You need to be here to every day. If you miss more than 3 classes
for any reason, you will be dropped from the course.
FINAL
EXAM: The final exam will be on Wednesday, December 6 from
noon to 3 p.m.

2. As far as homework is concerned, my
standards are the same as those of the Bryan School of Business here at UNCG
(found in the 2006-2007 Undergraduate Bulletin, p. 75):

general, students should plan to devote between 2-3 hours outside of class for
each hour in class.
