Death of Agamemnon
 |
This red figure krater from Athens (c. 470 B.C.) shows
Aigisthos
grabbing Agamemnon by his hair as the king
(covered by a net) falls
wounded. To the left (not in this view)
is Clytemnestra who wields an
axe; to the right is a female
figure -- perhaps Electra? -- crying out
at the murder and,
(again not in this view) Cassandra fleeing the
scene.

This red figure vase painting shows Orestes (labelled on the pot) killing
Aigisthos to avenge his father's death. |
