Apollo and Dolphins

	This red figure vase by the Berlin Painter shows Apollo sitting on a tripod, holding his lyre and wearing his bow/arrows on his back. The wings symbolize Apollo's journey over the sea, perhaps to the far-off land of the Hyperboreans. The dolphins on either side of the tripod may allude to Apollo's epithet "Delphinios". 	This view shows how the figure of Apollo is actually painted on the curved shoulder of the vase. Notice too the fish and octopus below the waves.
