Hammond School, Columbia, SC

Upper School Latin opening at Hammond School, Columbia, SC, starting August, 2009. Hammond School is seeking a full-time upper school Latin teacher, and possible department chair, for the 2009-10 school year. Prior AP teaching experience and an advanced degree are preferable.

Hammond School is a private, non-denominational preK – 12 school in Columbia, SC, serving almost 1,000 students. Spanish and Latin are offered in the Lower School; all fifth and sixth grade students take Latin. In 7th grade students choose to continue Latin or to take Spanish instead. Most students continue with the same language through 10th grade, with about 10% continuing on to AP in both languages.

The Upper School Latin position includes teaching five sections of Latin at levels 3, 4, 5, and AP to ninth-twelfth graders. Upper and Middle school students are active in South Carolina's JCL. Hammond is a 'global' school and continually seeks ways to impart a multi-cultural perspective to its community.

Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is seeking an experienced, full-time upper school Latin teacher for the 2009-10 school year.

Qualities we seek include subject knowledge, classroom management skills, enthusiasm, collegiality, a love of learning and teaching, and a desire to support students outside the classroom.

Duties include being an adviser to ten to twelve students. Preference may be given to applicants who can help with the school’s extracurricular needs. Interest in contributing to the boarding community is desirable as is interest in traveling abroad with students.
