For undergraduate students, the Computer Science Department offers a program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Computer Science. The B.S. program in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012 - telephone: (410) 347-7700.
The courses in the computer science program are designed to teach the foundations of computing rather than a particular technology, so that the student is prepared to change with changing technology. Currently, introductory courses use the C++ programming language. Introductory courses use networked microcomputers; advanced courses use UNIX (TM) workstations.
The department assists students in obtaining part-time jobs. While credit is not given for such work, a job allows the student to gain an idea of what a career in computer science is about and allows the employer to assess a future graduate's long-term potential.
The job market in computer science is strong. A student completing the degree with good grades can expect job offers in the range $40,000 to $48,000 as a systems programmer or analyst, applications programmer, systems support staff member, technical staff member, or similar position.
