Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
The North Carolina Consortium for Distance Education in Communication Sciences and Disorders was approved by the UNC Board of Governors on October 10, 1997. The Consortium makes it possible for currently practicing public school speech-language pathologists in North Carolina to upgrade their credentials to a Masters´ degree without interrupting their service to the schools. The Consortium is an inter-institutional program offered in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Participating institutions are Appalachian State University, North Carolina Central University, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNCGreensboro and Western Carolina University. The five participating graduate programs can enroll cohorts of 25 currently practicing public school SLP´s (5 per campus) annually for four years. The first cohort entered in the 1998-99 academic year and the last cohort is scheduled to complete their Masters´ degree in the 2003-2004 academic year.
