Local Health Literacy Coalitions Launching in 2009

The NCHLC has received funding from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of North Carolina to help develop health literacy coalitions across the state. Based on the successful model implemented in Guilford County (Greensboro), the Council will assist three communities in assessing health literacy needs and creating a strategic plan to address those needs. The NCHLC will also provide technical assistance and guidance regarding best practices as the local coalitions make decisions and being implementing programming in their communities.

To make the process even easier the NCHLC is developing toolkits for communities to use as they begin to address local health literacy issues. The toolkits will be field tested by the communities involved in this project and will be available online later in 2009. Check back frequently for updates on the coalition-building process and availability of toolkits.
