holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology. She is a North Carolina licensed clinical psychologist focusing on child and adolescent mental health issues with a special interest in the mental health consequences of violence and trauma, particularly among girls. She currently serves as an Associate Director and Research Assistant Professor for the Center for Youth, Family, and Community Partnerships, as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. She has published over 20 articles on the identification and treatment of children with severe emotional disturbance, and has made more than 30 presentations at regional and national research conferences, and is currently working on a book project on violence among girls. Her expertise lies in bridging the gap between research and clinical practice by developing systems of care that are collaborative, culturally-competent, and individualized to meet the needs of children and their families. Her current research projects center around violence and trauma across services systems (mental health, social services, and juvenile justice), the overlap between mental health and substance abuse, developing youth leadership programs, and ensuring evidence-based practices for children’s mental health in community settings.
