Sonja Frison holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s in Public Health in Maternal and Child Health. She currently serves as an Associate Director for the Center. She is also a Licensed Psychologist. Before coming to the center, she spent 6 years in clinical leadership in secure, female juvenile justice facilities in two states. This experience allowed for her to want to further develop earlier intervention and prevention programming at a systematic level. Prior to this experience, she worked for four years as an assistant professor in public health programming with pregnant and parenting adolescent mothers, homeless substance abusers, and homeless mothers and their children. Her graduate studies focused on psychosocial risk and cultural resilience factors. Her primary interests now are working within the context of populations who might be at risk, such as juveniles in the justice system, and helping providers implement evidence based screening, prevention, and intervention strategies to prevent deep end involvement in the system. This includes effectively treating mental health and substance abuse problems.
