Message from the Department Head
Welcome to the Department of Communication Studies! Whether you are currently enrolled in one of our programs, or exploring your options, I hope that you will find helpful information here on our web site. As you explore, you will discover who we are, what we do, and why we do it. And, I hope, you will also find good reasons to join us (or stay with us) on this fascinating quest.
The study of communication has great practical value, in every avenue and aspect of everyday life. Employers rank communication competencies as the most desirable qualifications of prospective employees. Deep understanding--and conscious practice--of high quality communication is central to our ability to participate in civic, social, family, work, and personal relationships.
Together, as a Department, we seek to understand and practice communication in ways that will improve the world we inhabit. As you will see, we offer B.A. and M.A. degrees in Communication Studies. If you are a current student, please use this site as a resource designed to make your life easier and to help you make the most of your time with us.
