Bachelor of Arts Graduates
Jill Lide
After receiving a BA in Communication Studies from UNC-Greensboro, I headed back to Texas for a nine month internship with the NBA’s own, Dallas Mavericks. Following that internship I worked as an Account Executive for XO Communications where I learned the art of “selling.” Then, the position I held as an Account Executive was followed by a position in Marketing for Innovative Staffing. Each opportunity lasted almost one year and has collectively been the catalyst for the work I’ve done within the last seven years.
Today, I work as a consultant for my own company, More Than Marketing. I connect with companies who are having difficulty meeting their financial goals. My task is to determine what the issues are through basic organizational ethnography and needs assessments. Then, use that data to make additional changes ranging from flattening an existing hierarchy to developing efficient communicative processes. Shifting an organizations paradigm of thought and practice can be difficult, but witnessing their success is worth it.
Everything I learned as a student at UNC-Greensboro has paved the way for my success. My business plan was developed from papers written in Dr. Kellet’s Organizational Communication and Training and Development classes as well as a paper from Dr. Natalle’s Communication Theory class. My BA in Communication Studies from UNC-Greensboro has not only given me an opportunity to work for myself, rather it has provided an opportunity to play a role in implementing systemic approaches to work within countless organizations.
