After completing my undergraduate studies I entered the insurance industry where I have worked in two very different areas. My first job was as a Claims Adjuster and from there I transitioned into Underwriting. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to complete both Undergraduate and Graduate in the Communication Studies Department at UNCG. It was my home away from home!
My training as a Communication Studies major provided me with the knowledge and skill set necessary to handle a wide variety of professional and personal situations. Claims and Underwriting are both fields where difficult situations transpire that place the customer in a less than pleasant situation.
Whether is a car accident, house fire, or insurance policy cancellation just to name a few I utilize my interpersonal training, listening skills, conflict/negotiation management training, intercultural relations, and public speaking on a daily basis to maneuver through these issues and hopefully resolve them successfully.
The skills obtained in each of these areas helps me to facilitate meetings and projects efficiently and effectively. My communicative training has provided me with the skills needed to establish, maintain, and grow my relationships both personally and professionally.
