Study Abroad
The
Department of Communication Studies (CST) participates in study abroad
opportunities organized through the International Programs Center (IPC). Our signature program is with Vaxjo (soon to
be renamed Linnaeus) University in southern Sweden. Juniors and seniors participate in the
Intercultural Studies Program that features multidisciplinary courses involving
classmates from Sweden and around the world.
Fifteen hours of coursework during the spring semester include sociocultural theory, intercultural communication,
methodology, and independent research.
Brochures on this program are available in the IPC offices in Foust
Bldg. and at 127 McIver St. and in the CST departmental offices or through Dr. Natalle,
who advises for this exchange experience.
Our
students have studied communication-related courses in Australia, Denmark,
France, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea, and Sweden with new
opportunities opening as international programs at UNCG continue to develop. If you wish to study during the summer in
France or Spain to achieve credit for your general education foreign language
requirement, contact the Romance Language Department. Click here to see what some of your fellow students say about their studies abroad.
Dr.
Etsuko Kinefuchi (e_kinefu@uncg.edu) and Dr. Jody Natalle (ej_natalle@uncg.edu)
are the two contact advisors for study abroad in CST. If you are interested in studying abroad,
contact either advisor to set up an appointment and discuss how your plans for
an international experience can augment your major and career goals. Before that appointment, it would be helpful
to study the International Programs Center website to plan some tentative
options.
