Cuny Awarded Outstanding Newcomer

San Diego - University of North Carolina at Greensboro Communication Studies faculty, Kimberly M. Cuny, has been named the National Communication Association's (NCA) Von Till Outstanding Newcomer for Communication Centers.
Cuny is the first person to receive the award which is designed to honor an NCA member who has been in Communication Centers administration for five years or fewer as of May 1st. Cuny took over directorship of The University Speaking Center at UNCG five years ago at the start of the center's second year of operation. At that time, the center had 17 staff members and completed nearly 100 consultations. Last year, the center had 40 staff members who completed over 2,000 consultations and 100 faculty requested workshops.
Cuny's nomination noted her UNCG and national successes in speaking center and lab innovation, scholarship, mentoring, effectiveness, participation in NCA’s Communication Centers section and hosting the National Association of Communication Centers Spring Mini-Conference in 2007.
