David E. Johnson Scholarship

David E. Johnson was an adult student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He began his studies at UNCG at age 25 after an unproductive freshman year elsewhere while working a series of entry-level jobs. At UNCG, he enrolled in Communication Studies and earned a place in the Honors Program. Upon graduation in 1986, he continued working for a communications company; however, in 1993, with a partner, he started his own company, AmeriNet, of which he is president. The proceeds from the endowed scholarship shall be used to fund an undergraduate scholarship, with the following stipulations:

  1. Student is an adult student (24 years or older by the deadline).
  2. Student is a full-time (12 hours minimum) undergraduate student in the Department of Communication Studies.

We research, teach, and practice communication to cultivate the ethical voices of people that speak in critical, constructive, and transformative ways to identities, relationships, and communities.

Applicants should address the following areas in the letter:

Ø  What life experiences led you to major in communication?

Ø  How does your academic performance reflect the mission statement?

Ø  How does your performance beyond the classroom reflect the mission statement?

Ø  How does the mission statement inform your decisions about future, personal, and professional goals and aspirations?

Letters should be 2-4 pages in length. Attach a current official University transcript. The letter should also include your current address so we can contact you when the decision is made. The reception of your application will be notified by e-mail. If you do not receive the notification at your UNCG e-mail address in two weeks from the deadline, please contact Dr. Kinefuchi at e_kinefu@uncg.edu. Questions should be directed to her as well.
