"A wonderful team of educators and friends, this is my memory of RPT's staff. I had the opportunity to enoy the benefits of professional inspiration and human understanding. The qualification I received, particularly for my concentration of study, is absolutely satisfactory to me. I wouldn't change it for another school's training in the same subject. Also, the lifelong memories I cherish for my professors and the rest of the staff will stay incomparable to any other experience in my mind."
Stephanie Tramontana Dumey
Class of 2000
Travel & Tourism Management
My experiences at UNCG were life changing. From the friends I made, the lessons I learned and the education I received, I wouldn't change a thing. I felt the Dept of Rec, Tourism, and Hosp. Management was made especially for me. The courses, practicum and internship and expecially the professors helped prepare me for life after school. If I had to do it all over again...I would choose UNCG & the Dept of Rec, Tourism, and Hosp. Management!

From Byrd’s trade shows to David’s ‘umms’ to Jerrie and UNCG I-dol to stealing candy from Ann, I would not have changed a thing. The ctr department IS the best department on campus. The department is truly passionate about what they do and their students. I appreciate what they taught me in preparation for my professional career and life.

An education should not be viewed as a ticket to a higher paycheck or a better job, though it might provide opportunities for both of these. Rather, it should provide training and insight that helps you mold the future of your field. I believe my experience at UNCG is allowing me to do that. Thank you RPT faculty and staff.

BS-Therapeutic Recreation
"The RPT Program at UNCG helped me transition into a Therapeutic Recreation Career by teaching program planning, program implementation, documentation and program evaluation. I now have the experience I need to think "outside the box" and plan innovative program for my clients."
Joan Kleinmann
Class of '07
BS-Therapeutic Recreation
"The ctr department made me feel right at home. I remember how much comfort Dr. Stone and the other professors gave me, being my mother away from home. I know that any time I need someone to talk to, or ask for a letter of recommendation they will always be there for me. The faculty in the ctr department truly care about their students and go the extra mile to help all of us succeed. After working for a short period and then going back to school, I realize how valuable all the lessons were that I was taught at UNCG. I will always have that with me, and I will cherish it forever."
Joan is currently at Queens University of Charlotte pursuing a music therapy degree

"UNCG was the best choice for me to attend college and then the Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality Managment Department made it even better. I have enjoyed every minute of my experience and I would not change it. Everyone in the ctr Dept has made my experience just that much better. I would have to say that Dr. Byrd being my advisor made my time at UNCG wonderful. He would have to be the best advisor in the world. Again, UNCG was a great university and it has help me become a professional in the ever-changing world."
Deborah Meridith
Class of '87

"UNCG assisted me with a huge transition in my life. Throughout my years at the university, I was unable to decide what I was suppose to do for the rest of my life. Changing my major from Zoology to Therapeutic Recreation was the answer. The professors made the transition easier. I appreciate their dedication for my graduation. I now have my own nonprofit in recreation therapy called KopperTop Life Learning Center. Thank you!"
Deborah is the Director of KopperTop Life Learning Center

"The personal investment that the faculty and staff make in their students creates a caring and supportive environment that is like having a second family/home. Instead of forcing me to structure myself around my education, my education was structured around me which allowed my passion for my line of study to grow. They not only prepared me for my professional career, but also gave me the skills, knowledge, support, and motivation to make my dreams come true."

Class of '07
BS-Leisure Services Management
"
This Department was the best I have ever found. With my disabilities I found really no obstacles to impede my progress. In fact, the curriculum in the ctr Department was above even the current Graduate School I attended in another state. UNCG will always be in my memories and the RPT/ctr Department will always be the Department for me. I am currently beginning the process to form my own Non-Profit Foundation/Organization in the United States. The skills I gained and honed in my classes has allowed me to handle most of the processes on my own. Fuctrer, my basic training here at UNCG allowed me to maintain a 4.0 GPA in Grad School. The monies I spent on my education at UNCG/ctr will no doubt propel me to the top echelon in my field of endeavor."
Donnie Underwood

"As the saying goes...you can't build a house upon the sand..." "Your professional career deserves and requires a firm, stable foundation. UNC-Greensboro provided me with the sound learning and growth opportunities that allowed me to build upon. With over 22 years in leisure services management, I can honestly attest to the fact that UNC-G was the rock that I built my "house" upon."

Gina Weeks
Class of 97'
BS-Therapeutic Recreation
"My experience at UNCG led me to a profession that I am truly meant to do in this life. My internship led me to a job that I have been at for 6 years now. Everything I learned in my years studying therapeutic recreation, I have been using on a daily basis for the past 6 years at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home. I felt well prepared by UNCG to take on my job, and I had some of the best professors at UNCG. I still keep in touch, and also supervise some therapeutic recreation interns. UNCG has a great therapeutic recreation program that prepares students for their future careers! Personally, UNCG helped me learn how to work with the aged, and individuals with disabilities. The (LES, RPT) program at UNCG is excellent and woctr checking into!"
Regina is the Director of Activities at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Greensboro, NC

I was lost until I found Dr. C. Stone in the then RPT department. The entire staff was very considerate and helpful to everyone with not only school related things but also life. I enjoyed my time at UNCG which was enriched by becoming involved with the RPT department.
Courtney Wilkes
Class of '07
BA-Hotel and Restaurant Management
I don't think there is another department/school on campus that the faculty and staff care so much about their students. They truly give 110% to make sure we are prepared for the future and whatever else is ahead of us in life in general. When I was in school and attending class outside our department I always heard complaints about other professor's and mainly with advising how no one was willing to help them. But in our department it was top priority we meet with our advisor's (mine being David) and we figured out what would work best for me, my schedule, and to graduate! This department is awesome! Every student I run into in High School that is looking for college's I try and persuade them not only to UNCG but to this department because it is the BEST EVER!!!! P.S. I am wanting to come back to get my Master's so my journey may not be over for this school yet!
Leisure Event Coordinator and Catering Manager at Childress Vineyards in Lexington, NC
Suzanne Williams
Class of '04
Leisure Services Management
I feel extremely fortunate to have been a student in the ctr department (formerly RPT). I've worked on campus for over 10 years in a variety of positions and the things I learned in my leisure service management classes have been invaluable to me professionally. Currently I assist event planners with their parking and campus access needs. It's a challenging position; never a dull moment. Thankfully the program planning experience I gained as a student prepared me well for this type of work. My classroom, group project, practicum and internship experiences have proven extremely beneficial. Still, more than anything, it is the faculty I remember and appreciate most of all. They were very supportive of me as a nontraditional student. Their phenomenal dedication to the learning process and to individual students is what really makes this department and this program so special.
Suzanne is the Assistant Director of Parking Operations & Campus Access Management at UNCG.
Andria Johnson York
Class of '04
Leisure Services Management
I returned to UNCG in 2002 as an adult student and graduated in 2004 with a B.S. in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism (Leisure Service Management). Since January of 2005 I have been working at my dream job as the Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs for the Girl Scouts, Tarheel Triad Council. My husband and I live on-site at Keyauwee Program Center, which is the resident summer camp and year-round program facility for the local Girl Scouts. I never would have been prepared for this job had I not been a part of the great RPT program at UNCG! I've also tried to stay in contact with the practicum and internship program through the department and have had some great rec students come down and work with us.
Andria is the Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs for the Girl Scouts, Tarheel Triad Council
