Special Note for TR Students

*Therapeutic Recreation students must submit a copy of the internship supervisor's national therapeutic recreation certification credentials and state recreation therapy licensure (when applicable).  Students not showing proof of the internship supervisor's credentials will not be allowed to complete their internship until they do so. University Supervisors MUST ensure the internship supervisor’s credentials from NCTRC (certification) and NCBRTL (State of NC Licensure) are current and will continue to be current for the duration of the internship.

Refund of Tuition Fees (for all majors)

Students will receive a refund of Athletic and Health Center tuition fees if the practicum or internship site is over 50 miles from the UNCG campus. Refunds are handled automatically within the CTR Department in July. In late August or early September you can inquire on the status of your refund through the Cashier's Office (334-5831).

Student Learning Outcomes (for all majors)

Student learning outcomes must be attached to the CTR Request for Practicum or Internship Site Approval form. The lead-in sentence should state: At the end of my practicum/internship, I will be able to:

  • Develop bullet statements describing what you will learn during your practicum or internship experience.
  • Develop approximately 5 bullet statements for practicum and 7-10 bullet statements for internship.
  • Start each bullet statement with an ACTION VERB.
  • Each bullet statement should have only one action verb.
  • The student should consult with the agency supervisor in the development of their learning outcomes.

Learning outcomes are the primary (not only) factor that faculty consider when deciding whether or not an agency is acceptable for a practicum or internship.

Clincial Instructional Agreement (for clinical agencies only)

Some healthcare agencies require a legal contract between UNCG and the agency. The UNCG Instructional Agreement can be forwarded to the agency for their approval.
The process is:
1. The student downloads the agreement and sends it to the agency with instructions to print out 2 copies, sign, and send back to the CTR Department.
2. The agency signs the agreements and sends the 2 copies with original signatures back to the CTR Department, or the agency makes notations on the agreement and sends the 2 copies with original signatures to the CTR Department. (Be sure that the agency sends 2 copies of the form. One with original signatures will be for the agency, one with original signatures will be for the CTR Department)
3. The UNCG Attorney approves the agreement.
4. The CTR Department sends one of the two copies back to the agency with all required signatures.
Once the signed agreement has come back to the CTR Department from the UNCG Attorney, the agreement is complete and the student can begin counting practicum or internship hours.
