Listening to Parents' Voices: The TRAIN team just released it's final report regarding focus groups conducted with parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  We hope that by sharing these important parent voices, we will be able to make a real difference as we attempt to increase community participation, access, and inclusion by those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, in Greensboro and surrounding communities.

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT
2PLUS TRANSFER GUIDE

The 2Plus Program at UNC Greensboro allows NC community college graduates who hold Associate of Applied Science degrees in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Culinary Technology, Travel and Tourism Management, or Baking and Pastry Arts to transfer to UNCG to major in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Students admitted to the 2Plus Program will receive transfer credit based on the courses taken within their community college programs. This 2Plus program is specifically designed for graduates of Noctr Carolina community colleges.

This 2Plus Transfer Guide will help you learn about the program and the academic department. If you have additional questions that are not answered in this guide, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (336) 334-5243 or the Department of Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management at (336) 334-5327.

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

The Hospitality and Tourism Management major is a Bachelor of Arts degree that includes a choice of two concentrations: Hotel and Restaurant Management or Travel and Tourism Management. The Hospitality and Tourism Management major is offered within the Department of Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Students first complete a set of courses that give them a broad foundation in all areas of hospitality and tourism management. All students may complete a business minor within the program if they meet Bryan School minor requirements.

Students gain a wealth of experience and information about hospitality and tourism operations and careers, including how to work and live in international locations. Regional industry partners support the program by offering selective internship opportunities where students gain résumé-building experience prior to graduation. Students wishing to pursue post-baccalaureate education in business or tourism will be prepared to do so.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

• Established in 2000, approximately 90 to 100 enrolled students
• Student-centered Recreation and Hospitality Club
• Professional Advisory Board and Guest Speakers
• UNC study abroad and Disney semesters available to qualified students

RECOMMENDATIONS

While the 2Plus program is an excellent way to gain admission to the University, it typically takes longer than two years to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Students wishing to take additional courses at the community college or fulfill elective hours for their AAS degree should consider taking UNCG’s General Education Core courses.
The following list of courses will help Hospitality and Tourism Management transfer students meet some of UNCG’s degree requirements prior to transferring.

ACC 120
ECO 251
CIS 110 or 111
COM 110, 120, 231 or ENG 115
ECO 251
ENG 111
ENG 112, 113, or 114
MAT 151 or 155

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

After UNCG, the world of hospitality and tourism awaits. Management positions are available and educated professionals are needed within each segment of the broader hospitality and tourism industry (hotels, foodservice, site attractions, private clubs, luxury resorts, meeting services). Hospitality and Tourism Management graduates often have a competitive edge over students with degrees in general business or other programs not specifically focused on the industry. Some of our students even choose to open their own restaurant or bed and breakfast.

TRANSFER OF COURSEWORK

Students must complete an AAS degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Culinary Technology, Travel and Tourism Management, or Baking and Pastry Arts in order to be eligible for admission to UNCG through the 2Plus program. Upon transferring, 2Plus Hospitality Management and Tourism students will be awarded 16 elective hours in addition to any work that is college transferable or part of the 2Plus agreement. Please see the table below for the courses that are part of the 2Plus agreement. Please contact The 2Plus Coordinator at (336) 334-4821 for an individual review of your transcript.
