2005      Project director.  Collaborative Assessment of Literacy Skills in Science and Mathematics Continuation Project.  UNC Division of School-University Programs NC QUEST Grants, 2/17/05 – 9/30/06, $135,400.

 

2004     Project Director.  Collaborative Assessment of Literacy Skills in Science and Mathematics. $267, 285 funded by the UNC University-Schools Programs NC QUEST - NC's ESEA Title II-A Improving Teacher Quality Grant funds.  A project designed to improve reading comprehension and student achievement in science and mathematics at the middle and high school levels by providing a results-oriented, standards-based, on-going professional development program through a partnership including School of Education faculty, local education agency master teachers, and College of Arts & Sciences faculty.

 

2003      Project Co-Principal Investigator.  Culturally relevant pedagogy as an instrument to narrow the achievement gap.  $49, 989 funded by the UNCG External Proposal Development Incentive Program.  An interdisciplinary project to develop and validate an instrument that measures culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) involving faculty from curriculum and instruction, educational research and measurement, sociology, and educational leadership. Linda Wightman (Educational Research & Methodology), co-principal investigator.

 

2002   Project Coordinator.  Exploring Teaching as a Profession.  $66,000 funded by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. A project to introduce freshmen and sophomores to the teaching profession by providing them with educational experiences and incentives that will motivate them to seek a career in the teaching profession.  Dale Schunk (Dean), project director.

 

1998     Project director.  Earth science--A solid foundation.  $30,000 funded by the UNC Mathematics & Science Education Network. A project to prepare high school teachers for the new earth science graduation requirement.   Jerry Walsh (Chemistry), principal investigator and Jay Lennartson (Geography), co-principal investigator.

 

1998      Consultant.  UNC Matching Incentive Grant, $72,000 awarded to the UNCG Office of Schools Services.  Frances Jones (OSS, Piedmont Triad Education Consortium), project director.

 

1997     I served as chief advisor in the grant preparation of ÒThe South Fork Collaborative and Multidimensional Project to Improve Student Achievement.Ó $13,500 was awarded to South Fork Elementary School from the Winston-Salem Foundation.
