The Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education offers a number of concentrations that culminate with eligibility for either an initial or advanced teaching license. Please read the descriptions of programs carefully below, and in the links to the left.
The Classroom Practice Track is designed for candidates who have a bachelor's degree in a field other than education and who wish to seek initial teaching licensure. These concentrations are available: Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, Social Studies Education, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and Science Education. Classroom Practice Track programs are designed for full time students and include required Internships and student teaching placements with partnership schools in the area.
The Teacher Leadership Track is designed for experienced teachers who already hold the "A" or initial license to teach and who wish to pursue more advanced licensure in a field of education. These concentrations are available: Elementary Education, Reading Education, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), Middle/Secondary Language Arts, Middle/Secondary Mathematics Education, Middle/Secondary Science Education, and Middle/Secondary Social Studies Education. The Teacher Leadership Track is designed for full time or part time students who have two years of teaching experience. Classes for these programs are offered in the evening and summer to accommodate practicing professionals.

The Graduate School deadline to apply for fall semester is July 1, for spring semester is October 1, and for summer is April 1. Most TED programs review year round and accept applicants any semester, except the ones listed below which have yearly deadlines.

What if I just want to take a course or two? Do I have to enroll in a program?
The VISIONS program is designed just for that purpose. If you need to renew a license, or if you wish to take a class in order to determine if you wish to apply to a program, or if you just have a love of learning, VISIONS may be the answer for you.
What if I cannot get my materials together in time for a deadline?
If you miss the application deadline or want to take classes before you formally apply you may be able to start your program through VISIONS. It is important to consult with the contact person for the program you are interested in to be sure the classes you take will count toward your program. How much do the programs cost?
