TESOL for ALL
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages = Academic Language Learning
Provided by the U.S. Department of Education, TESOL for ALL is a five-year, $1.4 million grant designed to better prepare university faculty, public school teachers and teacher candidates working with English language learners (ELLs).
TESOL for ALL offers professional development for pre-service teacher candidates, in-service teachers, and university faculty working with ELLs.
Pre-service Teacher Candidates
M.Ed. ESL – Classroom Practice Track
Designed for:
Students with an undergraduate degree (other than education) who wish to pursue a combined Masters degree in education and ESL teaching licensure for grades K-12.
Program Features:
- No teaching licensure or previous teaching experiences required to apply for the program;
- Cohort starts every January and students obtain M.Ed. degree and licensure May the next year;
- Night courses during the Spring and Fall semesters; summer sessions required;
- Weekly internship and student teaching at Asheboro City Schools;
- Supervised K-12 teaching experiences;
- Up to 15 students may receive a stipend of $800 each Fall and Spring semester (total of $2400) from a U.S. Dept. of Education grant supporting this program until 2012.
In-service Teachers at Chatham County and Asheboro City Schools
Professional Development:
- Teachers who are interested in obtaining the ESL add-on licensure will be reimbursed $1200 for 3 out of the 5 graduate-level courses required for the program.
- A total of $2,500 for travel stipends in order to participate in workshops and to disseminate local projects related to this grant.
District/School-based Projects
- Honoraria of $500 per day for up to 10 teachers from each school district who agree to
- co-plan and co-deliver professional development to prospective mentor teachers for UNCG ESL Interns and/or
- complete curriculum development, curriculum alignment, or teacher action research projects to improve instruction for LEP students approved by the school or district.
- Funds for purchasing instructional materials to support the effort to enhance academic achievement of ELLs are also available (e.g., professional books, children’s literature, videos, SIOP materials, etc.).
