TESOL for ALL
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages = Academic Language Learning

tesol for allProvided by the U.S. Department of Education, TESOL for ALL is a five-year, $1.4 million grant designed to better prepare university faculty, public school teachers and teacher candidates working with English language learners (ELLs).

TESOL for ALL offers professional development for pre-service teacher candidates, in-service teachers, and university faculty working with ELLs.

  • prepare to add K-12 ESL licensure to your current licensure

Pre-service Teacher Candidates

M.Ed. ESL – Classroom Practice Track
Designed for:
Students with an undergraduate degree (other than education) who wish to pursue a combined Masters degree in education and ESL teaching licensure for grades K-12.

In-service Teachers at Chatham County and Asheboro City Schools

Professional Development:

  • Teachers who are interested in obtaining the ESL add-on licensure will be reimbursed $1200 for 3 out of the 5 graduate-level courses required for the program.
  • A total of $2,500 for travel stipends in order to participate in workshops and to disseminate local projects related to this grant.

District/School-based Projects

  • Honoraria of $500 per day for up to 10 teachers from each school district who agree to
    • co-plan and co-deliver professional development to prospective mentor teachers for UNCG ESL Interns and/or
    • complete curriculum development, curriculum alignment, or teacher action research projects to improve instruction for LEP students approved by the school or district.
  • Funds for purchasing instructional materials to support the effort to enhance academic achievement of ELLs are also available (e.g., professional books, children’s literature, videos, SIOP materials, etc.).

Faculty at UNCG

  • Professional development workshop opportunities
  • Funds for revising syllabi and integrate ESL methods in teacher education programs
  • Funds for purchasing instructional materials to support effort to better prepare teachers for ELLs
