Excerpted from an email from Princess, regarding our alumni newsletter, as well as her recent accomplishments:

"I am not surprised at the great achievements of our faculty and students, because since graduation, just the mention of my being a graduate of UNCG, I have heard nothing but positive things about our school. I myself have come to adore the UNCG dance department even more after graduating. After graduation I was chosen as a NC Arts Community Arts Adminstration Intern. Eluza helped me by writing a letter of recommendation for me. It's a 3-month intensive internship. I started in September and have been working with the Cabarrus Arts Coucil. I am here unil the end of November. This has turned out to be a wonderful life-changing experience for me. I have learned much information about running a non-profit small business. I have also made connections with prominent arts advocates across our state and beyond.

I had the opportunity to attend the ArtsMarket 2007 in High Point, NC, which is a showcase/conference of performing artists organizaed by the NC Presenters Consortium and the NC Arts Council. Between showcases, there is a, what I call tradeshow exhibition set up of performing artists and management companies for interested people to approach and receive information. I talked to several people who either graduated from UNCG knew of our staff and their accomplishments. I met Chuck Davis. He of course knows Robin Gee and spoke very highly of her and our school. I also met Jeanne Ruddy, who happened to be Duane and BJ's teacher at Julliard.

I also met a graduate of the UNCG theater department from Richmond Ballet named Keith Martin. I told him about my ultimate goal to open a dance studio. He informed me of a studio management internship that is offered at Richmond Ballet. He invited me to tour the company the following weekend and watch some performances. After the tour and performances, he interviewed me then offered me the position as a management intern there. My housing will be covered and I also will recieve a substantial stipend! It just excites me that I am connected to a wonderful arts school, and a prestigious dance community. I am more than happy that I chose to receive my education at UNCG. I am proud of the faculty and the achievements they have made that helps us students establish an image for ourselves as we go out into the arts community.

So I have been doing a lot since graduation and have made many conncections with important people in the arts coummunity. I credit much of my ability to speak about dance eloquently to the curriculum in place at the UNCG dance department, and though I dreaded taking some classes, reading some articles, and writing many papers, I am glad we did those things. The coursework I did helped to enhance my thinking and speaking about dance to a professional and educated level. I want to extend a thanks to the wonderful staff of the dance department and tell all other fellow dance department and students and alumni that nothing we do in the dance department is in vain. It is all worth it in the long run."

Myra is participating in an internship as assistant for Martha Clarke in Durham, NC. She says of this experience, "Its interesting to watch a process that I dreamed and heard of while being in college. Gone are the days of being in the theater for an hour and fifteen minutes! Here its 11am-6pm everyday. I'm learning a lot just watching the dancers- how they act in rehearsals, work to inspire Martha, and give themselves to the process. It's beautiful."
