Technique Placement Class

Our next placement class for students interested in taking technique classes and who are not placed at a level will be on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 5pm in studio 322. Registration is not required.

 

Undergraduate Dance Audition:

Our next audition for prospective dance majors will be on April 3, 2010. Registration for the audition is required and interested students should submit a completed Audition Request Form to the Department. The registration deadline for the April 3, 2010 audition is Friday, March 26, 2010.

PERFORMANCE CALENDAR* FOR 2009/2010

All performances take place in the UNCG Dance Theater located at the corner of Walker Avenue and Kenilworth St, unless otherwise noted.

Evening performances begin at 8PM. Matinees begin at 2PM.

THURS, 9/3 at 8PM| Frank Vulpi Concert: An Evening of Music (FREE)
An evening of music, influenced by Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass.

SAT, 9/26 at 8PM| Alumni Homecoming Dance Concert ($12 general admission; $9 seniors and children; $6 students)
An evening of dance work by UNCG Department of Dance alumni E. Gwynn Co., Liz Carlson, Tracie Foster Chan, Tamara Begley, Erin Brown Craven, and Madeleine Reber.

THURS-FRI, 10/1-2 at 8PM, SAT 10/3 at 2PM & 8PM| Cyrus Art Production ($15 general admission; $12 seniors and children; $9 students)
Original choreography by UNCG Department of Dance faculty member Duane Cyrus. His company is an organization that presents dance and theater in unique and thought-provoking cultural events. With high production standards and an interdisciplinary approach to performance and presentation, CAP develops projects, performances, and art works designed to stimulate your mind with beauty and intelligence. Born from the founder's vision to test the boundaries of dance presentation, Cyrus Art Production has evolved into an organization that brings together various artistic disciplines including dance, music, drama, video, photography, and graphic art to create an experience that is accessible, intellectually engaging, and entertaining.

FRI-SAT, 10/30-31 at 8PM | Dances from 1920s Paris: Two Works by Cocteau ($12 general admission; $9 seniors and children; $6 students)
Two works will be performed, which were originally by French poet, novelist, dramatist, designer, boxing manager, playwright, artist, and filmmaker, Jean Cocteau.

FRI-SAT, 11/6-7 at 8PM | North Carolina Dance Festival ($15 general admission; $12 seniors and children; $9 students) Held in Aycock Auditorium
The Festival is an annual showcase of North Carolina dance artists that travels to five communities. Eight different companies will tour, performing alongside artists local to the host communities, making the actual concerts a mix of local and statewide artists.

THURS-SAT, 11/19-21 at 8PM | John Gamble Dance Theater ($15 general admission; $12 seniors and children; $9 students)
Original choreography by UNCG Department of Dance faculty member John Gamble. Gamble has created more than 70 dance works. His pieces have been performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. He has been presenting in North Carolina since 1986. His company includes dancers, musicians, and actors. His productions are often evening-length dance/plays that address political and social issues.
