      Undergraduate teaching:

      Dance Appreciation (curriculum bridges writing intensive, global marker, and fine arts general studies requirements; dance major section emphasizes reading of written and performed dance texts; coordination of 120 person lecture course; collaboration with and mentoring of graduate students as teachers); World Dance (study of selected movement practices and their histories); History of Dance in the United States (examination of social, sacred, and theatrical dance between 1850 and 1970; activities integrate bodily and intellectual investigation; writing intensive); Contemporary Dance: Aesthetic and Cultural Practice (upper level undergraduate course surveying contemporary social/aesthetic approaches to dancemaking; speaking intensive; self-guided learning emphasized). Dance minor advisor.

     

      Graduate teaching:

Dance: the Phenomenon I (introduction to research in dance studies; mentoring of critical exploration through movement, research of existing literature, dance observation, self-reflection, and writing; co-taught with Sue Stinson; campus-based and online versions); Dance: the Phenomenon II (introduction to action research; mentoring of critical pedagogy and writing; co-taught with Sue Stinson; campus-based and online versions); Dance Pedagogy in Higher Education (seminar includes teaching observation, exploration of practical and critical writings in pedagogy, development of teaching philosophies); Contemporary Dance: Aesthetic and Cultural Practice (directed reading of literature in dance, feminist theory, and cultural theory); Perspectives on Dance in North Carolina (experimental course emphasizing creation of regional public histories of dance)
