All students are assigned an advisor for purposes of academic advising and registration. Students may go to their academic advisor or any other member of the faculty (including TAs) for informal advising regarding academic or personal matters. All faculty are welcome to consult with the Department Head and/or Undergraduate Advisor regarding questions or difficult issues that might arise.
Responsibilities of academic advisors include the following:
1. To stay current regarding requirements for graduation and Department
policies. While it is official university policy that students are responsible
for making sure degree requirements are met, in reality students take
faculty’s word as truth when it comes to requirements. Look it up
if you are not completely sure.
2. To post and maintain signup sheets for pre-registration appointments
several days prior to the beginning of the pre-registration period each
semester.
3. To contact and counsel students receiving unsatisfactory notices and
those whose names are brought forward during the faculty meetings to discuss
students.
5. To be aware of which advisees anticipate meeting graduation requirements
during each semester.
6. BS advisor: To remind students regarding application for admission
to Teacher Education and Student Teaching, and all other requirements
of teacher education.
The Department has a form which will be used for the evaluation of advising.
