The Department copier is to be used when making small numbers of copies. If you need more than a few pages or copies, these should be done on the School copier by the secretary. You may leave materials to be copied (with a completed copy form) in the box marked “copying” in the office. Large numbers of copies require more time. All faculty and TAs are asked to keep copying requests to the minimum required for instructional needs. In general, we do not make paper copies of syllabi for each student. However, if you believe you need to provide paper copies of syllabi, or parts of them, to students to maximize their understanding of course expectations, please see the Department secretary to make these arrangements. Be aware that even if you distribute paper copies we must post the entire syllabi on the web (through the Department’s program assistant--Katie) for the Department to meet accreditation requirements.
When making your own copies on the Department machine, you will need a
password (from the secretary). Please be mindful when using the copy machine
as well as all other Department equipment, that our resources are limited.
The copy machine is to be used for making copies associated with your
responsibilities as a faculty member or Teaching Assistant. If you need
to make a copy of a paper you are writing for a class in which you are
a student or any other personal business, you may do so at the machine
in the student lounge on the first floor (next to the equipment room).
Even in a good budget year, ordinarily, no instructor should hand out
more than 5-10 pages per student per semester (depending on the size of
the class). If you have a lengthy article you wish students to read, or
even a modest article in a large class, make it available through Blackboard
e-reserves.
In making copies, use both sides of the paper when possible. To further
conserve resources, save paper that has been copied only on one side;
put it in the designated pile in the copy room. The other side of paper
can be used to copy memos or drafts; the secretary can demonstrate how
to do this.
