All tenure track faculty are reviewed for promotion and tenure according to the timetable indicated in the University Faculty Handbook. All tenured faculty undergo Post Tenure Review (PTR) every five years, with the annual Department reviews used as a basis; the Department Head does not go through PTR during the appointment as Head.
All continuing faculty (including non-tenure track) are reviewed annually
for purposes of merit and career advising. See Appendix 11 for the latest
form and process.
While the University establishes deadlines by which full-time non tenured
faculty must be notified of non-reappointment, no such protection is available
for part-time faculty. The Department Head will make every effort to be
clear regarding Departmental needs for part-time faculty, but typically
appointments are made shortly before the semester begins and are subject
to cancellation if enrollments are insufficient.
Teaching Assistants are reminded that all appointments are for one year.
While ordinarily TAs are reappointed for up to a total of three years
(MFA) or two years (MA), unless informed otherwise at the time of the
initial appointment, reappointment is based on both success in teaching
as well as success as a student. See Graduate Handbook for information
about graduate reviews.
Undergraduate students are admitted to the Dance major through auditions
which take place twice yearly – in November and April. Fulltime
faculty members take turns serving as adjudicators at the auditions, which
are coordinated by the Dance office staff.
Students in teacher licensure programs have reviews at several points
during their time in the program, as mandated by the state. More information
about these reviews is available from the faculty members responsible
for advising these students, the MA Handbook, and the undergraduate handbook.
