All faculty members and TAs teaching a course must create and teach in accordance with a course syllabus meeting institutional expectations as these are described in the UNCG Curriculum Guide (available at http:// provost.uncg.edu/Underedu/content /Curriculum_ Committee/Curriculum_Guide/Curriculum_Guide.pdf). In making assignments, keep in mind that undergraduate students can expect to spend at least two hours outside class for each hour in class; this does not apply to technique classes. Students in graduate level courses may expect to spend three hours each week in outside work for each hour in class. If you teach a 500-level class, you must establish different assignments for undergraduates and graduate students enrolled in the class. Graduate students may have additional assignments or more complex ones than undergrads. Electronic copies of course syllabi must be forwarded by the first day of classes to the staff person in charge of maintaining the Department’s web page. It is the responsibility of each faculty member to make sure that students understand the contents of their course syllabi. The Department Head will happily provide assistance in preparing syllabi to any faculty member who needs it.
