Shawn Bowman-Hicks’ faith and family drive her craft, where she passionately believes dance is for everyone and encourages people to pursue it in their lives. She received an MFA in Dance from The Ohio State University. She comes to Winston-Salem from New Mexico, where she taught at New Mexico State University. Shawn has also been a guest artist and on the faculties at Goucher College, Towson State, Ohio State, Columbia College, UNC-Greensboro, Wake Forest, Salem College, Quangxi Arts College (P.R. of China), North Carolina Public Schools, and The North Carolina Governor’s School. She performed extensively with the International Dance Theatre Repertory Company in El Paso, TX, as well as with the Jan Van Dyke Dance Group and AHA! Dance in Greensboro, NC. She has had numerous works produced, including two dances for The North Carolina Dance Festival, and "Shukani" for the Ohio Dance Festival, a work based on her personal experiences while living in Kenya, East Africa. In January of 2009, Shawn performed a new duet entitled "Giving/Up" for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Teacher’s Symposium, where she also presented an interactive lecture demonstration called "Movement from Within." This fall, she is a featured artist for the 2009 NCAAPHERD convention. Shawn is currently teaching at UNCG and Salem College and is performing regionally.
