Uniting with the Corporate World - UNCG and Syngenta
"It's refreshing to see a university want to reach beyond its borders and work with business," says Gary Dickson, Syngenta's vice president of NAFTA Development. As part of its recommitment to education, Syngenta has partnered with UNCG in a number of ways that have proven to be mutually beneficial. Syngenta provided grant funding for equipment in UNCG's new science building and also created the annual Syngenta Science Symposium. VF Intern Gains Real World Experience During Her Senior Year
An avid seamstress and designer, senior Michelle Sigmon was curious to see where her talent could take her after graduation. As a Consumer Apparel and Retail Studies major at UNCG, she won't have to wait to find out. Her 14-month internship working for VF Jeanswear's Wrangler department is providing her a vision for the future.

UNCG at the Forefront of Genomics Testing
We can't do much about our genetics, but we can make adjustments in our environment. That is the premise underlying the Guilford Genomics Medicine Initiative (GGMI), a landmark collaboration between UNCG, Moses Cone Health System, and Duke University with $6 million in federal funding from the Department of Defense. As a partner in this exciting project, UNCG focuses on identifying and educating people who are vulnerable to genetically based disorders such as breast cancer, colon cancer, and venous thrombosis (blood clots) and deepening the knowledge of the health care professionals who interact with them. UNCG's Development Office would like to introduce David Arneke, our new Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. He will join Susan Larson, Sr. Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and his assignments will include the Bryan School of Business and Economics, and the Schools of Education, Health and Human Performance, and Nursing. Prior to accepting the position with UNCG, Arneke managed corporate contribution budgets and developed major grants for the AT&T Foundation as the foundation's regional representative. David is also an accomplished business entrepreneur and writer, owning his own public relations firm, David Arneke Communications. He is a graduate of Duke University.
We welcome David to our staff and look forward to a productive year.
