The Teaching Resources Center is in very good hands, according to Marge and Jake Michel. “The strong dedication of director Karen Gavigan and Dean of the School of Education Dale Schunk makes all the difference,” says Marge, a UNCG graduate with a master’s of education in reading. One cannot overlook, however, the generous endowment made by the Michels, helping elevate the center and secure its future.

The Teaching Resources Center serves students, faculty, alumni and local teachers by providing access to instructional materials and technology critical to their work, but in short supply. “Many teachers have to secure their own educational materials. The center is a vital resource for them,” says Marge.

The center is the ideal recipient of the Michel’s generosity. Former teachers, they are long-time advocates of education. With teacher retention an urgent challenge, they feel it is important to encourage students going into the field. “Teaching is much more difficult today. We want to give teachers a place to go to get all kinds of help before they ever get into the classroom. The Teaching Resources Center is one of those places,” says Marge.
