Current gifts are ideal for the donor seeking to make an immediate impact. Unlike endowment gifts, which are permanently invested to generate annual income, current gifts are intended to be expended immediately.
Current gifts can be for scholarships, fellowships, professorships, or faculty support. Gifts must be given on a schedule that allows the University to plan for their use. Generally this means making the gift by December 31, so that the University knows these funds will be available when scholarship awards are made in the spring for the following academic year.
As with an endowed fund, we will work with you to draft a "statement of establishment" for your current gift, documenting your wishes in making the gift and the University's promise to abide by those wishes. The amount of your gift will be the approximate equivalent the income from an endowment for the same purpose (i.e. a minimum of $1,000) and must be pledged as an annual commitment for four or more years. We will give you an annual report on the recipients of your scholarship.

Gifts for general purposes, such as to school or departmental enrichment funds or for equipment needs, can be made at any time and spent at any time.
Timing requirements for gifts made for buildings, renovations, and other capital projects depend on the nature and timing of the project. Typically, private funds necessary for a construction or renovation project must be in hand before construction can begin.
