Post Masters Certificate in School Administration - Specialized Education Focus (PMC-S)
Program Synopsis
The Post-Master's Certificate in School Administration- Specialized Education Focus (PMC-S) will help students develop skill sets necessary to succeed as leaders in the highly important endeavor of providing leadership for serving students with exceptional needs. PMC-S is specifically designed to attract and serve graduating UNCG Specialized Education Services M.Ed. students who have completed the 3 course (9 credits) "Leadership Option" as part of their studies. It is a 15 credit hour program that includes one 3-credit course and a year-long internship (12-credit hours). The certificate meets the requirements of the state legislation that supports an alternative path to school administration licensure (also known as "add-on" principal licensure).
Gainful Employment information
The PMC-S is not currently eligible for federal or state financial aid.
Admission Procedures
During their final semester in the SES M.Ed. program, students apply for admission to the ELC PMC-S. Student admission to the ELC PMC-S will be conditional, requiring that they successfully complete the SES M.Ed. and meet all ELC PMC-S admission requirements.
Candidates must submit a full and complete PMC application to the Graduate School. Graduate School admissions information is available at http://www.uncg.edu/grs/
Admission requirements include:
- Candidates must provide 2 copies of transcripts from all prior universities attended.
- Candidates must hold a M.Ed in Specialized Education Services (SES) from UNCG.
- Candidates must evidence at least 3 years of teaching or other professional educational experience (not limited to public schools).
- Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in a Masters degree program.
- Candidates must submit a full and complete Post Masters Certificate in School Administration–Specialized Education Focus (PMC-S) application to the Graduate School that includes evidence (in the form of a transcript) that they have completed 3 required ELC courses as part of the Leadership Option in their SES M.Ed.
- Candidates must submit three letters of recommendation, one of which must come from a school principal or education supervisor.
- Candidates must submit a current resume that details all previous leadership and professional roles.
- Candidates must submit a personal statement that responds to the writing prompts provided by the Department.
- Candidates must participate in a PMC-S interview in which they will discuss how their interests and goals are aligned with the Department's Statement of Commitments.
- The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Graduate School does not require an admissions test for certificate programs like the PMC-S.
The deadline to submit application materials to the Graduate School is January 15. Accepted students begin the program in the following semester.
Academic Coursework
PMC-S students must complete one (3 credits) of the following four academic courses. Students must choose the one course that they did not complete while pursuing the 3 course (9 credits) Leadership Option as part of their M.Ed. in Specialized Education Services (SES).

A signed Plan of Study is to be kept on file with the PMC Coordinator beginning in the first month of the student's 2nd semester in the program. A copy of the Plan of Study will also be placed in the student's file in the ELC Office.
Internship
Students are required to complete an internship experience in an urban educational setting that is the equivalent of one year of full-time administrative field experience.

Progress
Students are expected to complete the PMC-S in about 2 years.
Important Stipulations:
1. PMC-S students may not transfer in credits from other Universities and/or programs.
2. Only 3 credits earned through Visions can be applied to the PMC.
3. PMC-S students must complete their program within 5 years.
4. PMC-S students may have no more than 3 hours of C credit.
Licensure Portfolio/Capstone Experience
In order to receive North Carolina state licensure as a principal, students must submit a Licensure Portfolio to the department for review. The Licensure Portfolio includes material drawn from the student's coursework and internship. The Licensure Portfolio provides documentary evidence that the student has met state leadership standards. The Licensure Portfolio will also serve as the CAPstone experience for the PMC-S.
Graduation Procedures
Students must apply to the UNCG Graduate School for graduation and submit an approved Plan of Study. The student must apply for state licensure through the Teachers Academy after he/she has successfully completed his/her coursework and state licensure portfolio/CAPstone experience.
